Legal Sector

A4ID partners with lawyers to leverage legal expertise in pursuit of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It encourages legal professionals to step up and play their part in its vision of eradication of poverty. Lawyers hold a unique role in achieving this vision, through the provision of pro bono legal assistance, participation in important networks, conferences & events, and contributions to research in changing policies & laws to promote sustainable growth.

Provide Pro Bono Legal Advice

Law is a powerful tool for fighting causes, protecting rights, and running an effective organisation. But, legal assistance is often expensive and sometimes inaccessible. Working with A4ID enables legal professionals to provide essential pro bono legal support in areas as varied as contract law, administrative law, property law, environmental law, and constitutional law, to name a few.

A4ID is proud to work with an extensive network of leading international law firms, barristers, in-house lawyers, and legal academics, who provide high quality pro bono legal advice to development organisations. Assistance provided by A4ID partners has helped build schools, established an environmental tribunal, and strengthen the legal case for international healthcare coverage.

So, if you or your organisation are interested in using your expertise to have real-world impact, contact our Pro Bono Legal team or visit our Pro Bono Legal Service page.

Improve Rule of Law

Funded by the UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, A4ID’s Rule of Law Expertise (ROLE UK) Programme provides legal and technical support to improve rule of law in specific regions.

The Programme focuses on building long-term partnerships between the UK legal sector and legal actors in FCDO-focus regions to strengthen the rule of law and facilitate progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

So, if you or your organisation are interested in providing pro bono legal advice & technical expertise on rule of law issues, visit ROLE UK Programme for more information.

Promote Sustainable Development

The SDG Legal Initiative harnesses the collective power of the legal profession to promote sustainable development. It commits to sharing knowledge and best practice on how the law can contribute towards the SDGs. By doing so, legal professionals are enabled to take action to end poverty, protect the planet, and secure peace and prosperity around the world.

All law firms, development organisations, private sector corporations, and early career professionals are invited to join the Initiative. The Initiative gives legal professionals access to resources, training & events, and opportunities to contribute to the sustainable development agenda.
